Categories make it easier for customers to browse your catalogue and discover new products. To get started, categorise your products.

Automatically categorising products

In your product list, choose the Auto categorise option. Categories will be assigned to any products that don't have one. This may take a few minutes for larger product lists. We recommend checking that the assigned categories are suitable.

You can use Auto categorise whenever you add new products. You'll notice after the Auto categorisation is complete the newly-updated products will be sorted to the top of the Products list.

Manually categorising products

To manually assign categories, select a set of products, then choose an option from the Category menu.

You can also categorise individual products by going to the product details. The arrow icons in the top right let you quickly navigate between products.

Feature categories

Feature categories are promoted to customers as your main product offerings. These will be shown first in your storefront.

You can add featured categories in the Featured tab. Put your most important categories first. You can drag and drop to reorder them.

Tip: If you don't have any feature categories set up, when you use Auto categorise we will automatically create them, using the five categories with the most products by default. You can update these any time from the Featured tab.

What will my customers see?

Your featured categories will be listed at the top for customers to quickly filter on.

Depending on what you select in Products > Settings > Storefront options your customers will see your product list organised in one of three different ways.

  • Group by feature category, sort by name: this option shows your products grouped by the feature categories you have selected, in the priority order you choose, and with headings for each category.

  • Sort by product name: this option shows all your products in a list, arranged alphabetically by the product names.

  • Sort by product code: this option shows all your products in a list, arranged alphabetically by the product codes.

You can see how this changes how your products are listed by going to Products > Featured > preview your storefront > Products.

Filtering your products by category

Categories are also helpful when managing your product list. To filter your products by category, choose an option from the Filter menu.

To see all products that don’t have a category yet, choose the Uncategorised option.
